  • The green corridor was created for organ donation

For the very first time in the capital, a green corridor was created between a private hospital, Apollomedics Super Speciality Hospital and a government hospital, SGPGI, in order to transport the organs of a 21 year old patient who was brain dead because of a traumatic brain injury.

After the death of the patient, the kidneys and liver were removed for organ donation.

A Green Corridor was created between Applomedics Hospital and SGPGI and the 10.4 km distance between the two hospitals was covered in 7 minutes by the ambulance carrying a kidney.

CEO and MD, Apollomedics Hospital Dr. Mayank Somani said, “When the doctors of SGPGI were informed about the availability of a kidney in Apollomedics for organ donation, it was found that the Kidney matches with a 35 year old admitted to SGPGI for the treatment of severe Kidney disease. The doctors of both the hospitals completed the process of cross matching throughout the night of 10-11 May. We sought help from the district administration and traffic police and the administration took quick action by creating this green corridor till SGPGI. We express our gratitude to the family members of the deceased for setting an unparalleled example of humanity and all the officers and doctors for making this work a success. Such successful reconciliation has given a glimmer of hope to patients in need or organ.”
