We have successfully performed LVAD implantation at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Gurugram. LVAD is a battery-operated, mechanical pump that is implanted inside a patient’s chest to help a weakened heart to pump blood. The procedure to implant LVAD is complex and need technical and logistics expertise which is available at our centre. There is a large population of patients who have advanced heart failure and LVAD can be lifesaving for these patients. What is important is the awareness that such facilities are readily available and success rates are improving very fast and after device implantation the patient can expect a good quality of life. Undoubtedly this treatment is expensive but we at Narayana Health try to help the patient as much as possible.
