Organizes Braille reading-writing and debate competitions amongst the visually impaired students of NAB

Amway celebrates Louis Braille Day in collaboration with National Association for the Blind, Lucknow | Kaivalya Communication

Lucknow, January 09, 2019:  Amway India, the country’s largest FMCG direct selling company celebrated the 210th birth anniversary of Louis Braille with its 11NGO partners for the eleventh-consecutive year by organizing myriad initiatives. Mr Chetan Chauhan cabinet minister, sports, youth welfare of UP government was present as the chief guest for the event In Lucknow, Amway organized Braille reading-writing and debate competitions amongst the visually impaired students of NAB, Lucknow. Around 40 students participated in the competition and Ashish Shukla won the first prize in Braille reading-writing and Harshit singh won the first prize in debate competition.

Mr. G. S. Cheema, Sr. Vice President – North & South, Amway India, said, “At Amway, the main focus of our National Project for the visually impaired is to empower and enable the visually impaired individuals by providing them avenues for inclusive education. The program has benefitted more than 250,000 visually impaired individuals so far by providing various aids and equipment useful in education including braille books, audio/braille libraries and by providing them technology and IT training through computer centers across India. We believe that the braille system plays an important role in building the foundation of education for the visually impaired individuals and we are happy to provide them with the much-needed encouragement by organizing such competitions.”

Louis Braille invented the Braille system to enable the visually impaired individuals to read and write. World Braille Day is celebrated annually on January 4, the birthdate of Louis Braille to recognize his contributions towards helping the visually impaired individuals to remain part of the mainstream society by reading and writing as a normal person.
