Patna, March 19, 2020:  Airtel Payments Bank has joined hands with JEEViKA, an initiative of Government of Bihar for poverty alleviation, to take banking and financial services deeper into unbanked and under-banked pockets of rural Bihar and thus contribute to financial inclusion in the State. Together, they aim to build a robust doorstep banking infrastructure in rural Bihar. Jeevika is the biggest SHG organisation in Bihar and works toward social & economic empowerment for rural poor in the state.

JEEViKA and Airtel Payments Bank have chalked out a multi-pronged strategy to drive financial inclusion at a grass root level in rural Bihar. The strategy involves combing Airtel Payments Bank’s vast reach in the rural hinterland of Bihar with JEEViKA’s deep access and knowledge of over a million Self Help Groups in Bihar.

Airtel Payments Bank will work to open Banking Points, powered with Aadhar Enabled Payment System, close to SHG offices in Bihar; empower women members of SHG by offering livelihood opportunities; and offer a set of differentiated products to truly create the first digital SHG ecosystem in the country.

JEEViKA will simultaneously roll-out ‘Digital Didi’ initiative under which SHG members will educate villager about digital banking.

Mr. Anubrata Biswas, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Airtel Payments Bank, said, “Airtel Payments Bank is committed to drive financial inclusion in the country. We are glad to partner with JEEViKA to reach the underbanked and unbanked population in Bihar. We strongly believe that this partnership will accelerate our progress to achieve our mission of taking formal banking to the doorstep of every Indian. Going forward we intend to introduce differentiated banking products to digitise the financial chain process for Self Help Groups across the country.”
